Contents insurance
can be taken out as a seperate policy, insuring just the contents of your
home. Contents Insurance policies cover movable objects inside your house
or belongings and possessions that are not part of the fabric of your house
such as carpets, curtains, TV and computer. Some also cover freezer contents
(often as an extra option).
The premium you will pay for home buildings or contents insurance can vary
widely depending on how big your house is, what kind of cover you want,
the value of your possessions, and the location of the house. Most will
cover contents up to around £50k. That sounds like a lot but if you
add up the replacement cost of everything in your home, it will add up!
Remember not to undervalue your contents. If your house burned down to the
ground, you would regret it!!
The list on the left is a regular survey of the main online home insurance
sites. It shows most of the sites that offer the cheapest building contents
insurance policies. The sites must add something to the online home
insurance policy scene in order to be listed in the survey. The sites listed
here offer a decent selection of the rates generally available and are easy
enough to use. Some are big household name UK insurance companies such as
Norwich Union and Direct Line, others are online offerings
from existing intermediaries or small dedicated online UK insurance specialists.
It is worthwhile shopping around to find the best home contents cover.
